The Eclectics: LaQuana D.

Who are your top 5 artists and why?
Top 5 (In no particular order. My love is too strong for each artist)

1 Amy Winehouse. Despite her personal life (we all have some form of issues to deal with) her music was pure honesty, even if it made her look bad. Plus her album Frank got me through more boydrama than I'd like to admit.

2.Esthero. So much talent! A beautiful singer and true to her personal artform. I suspect her need to keep her music non commercial and real is why she takes soooo long to release more albums!!

3. Nujabes. More of a creator than a typical musical artist, nujabes is one of those musicians who is very rare to find. He uses influences from his surroundings/experiences/relationships and just creates a universal magic that everyone can listen to. Shiki no uta is evidence of this. Sung in Japanese but mixed by Nujabes and Fat Jon. Enough said.

4. Portishead. Portishead was there when I had nothing but coffee, bloodshot eyes, and all nighters to pull throughout school. I walked to class to them, fell asleep to them. I've even had dreams where Portishead was the soundtrack the the dream sequences. Now that's love.

5. The Roots. Lyrically and musically, this band is perfect. Socially conscious and emotionally aware, this group has it all. Some people were just born to make music. The collaborative effort that makes up The Roots is certainly one of those groups who have answered a special calling.

How would you describe your taste in music?
My taste in music is very sporadic and all over the place. I can prob name an artist I like in every musical genre available.

What are you listening to at the current moment
Currently I am listening to J'Davey and Kanye West. I've been on an R&B/Rap kick lately. I usually add in some old school with that so my throwback artist at the moment is SWV.

What was your most memorable concert experience?
Most memorable show experience is the M.I.A concert where I danced on stage!!! I danced so hard my chest felt tight and I perspired through my shirt. Plus a girl accidentally hit me in the face and I didn't care one bit. In that particular moment, I felt complete and utter euphoria. Nothing could take that joy from me.

If your life had a soundtrack what would be the opening theme?
The opening theme to the soundtrack of my life would be All I want is everything by JoJo. Its also currently my morning alarm. As a young girl on the verge of becoming a woman I have a lot to figure out about who I am and what I want out of life. There is so much I would like to do and see. This song is so representative of where I am in life right now. It keeps me motivated to keep going in the morning even when I'm dead tired. "My drive exceeds circumstance. I want it all."
