It's been a while since I've really been wowed by an artist but Gary Clark Jr. is amazing. Over the past ten years he has been working his way to the top and he is finally getting the well deserved exposure that he needs. His infectious guitar rhythms has people coining him the new generation's Jimi Hendrix. He has toured nationwide with a number of artists such as Beck, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, and the Dave Matthews Band among many others. Determined to make a name for himself since the age of twelve, Gary grabbed any opportunity thrown his way. He performed at a number of local shows and used them to network his way around which paid off when a local blues club owner began featuring him at his venue. This generated a steady buz which familiarized natives of the town with his sound. He got his big break when Eric Clapton hand picked him to perform at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Texas and it was the DVD of the show that landed him a recording deal with Warner Bros.
Gary's official debut 'Blak and Blu' introduces us to the immense talent that he possesses. Many artist are well diverse in their efforts and Gary's transition between electric blues and mellow tunes is exactly what we need right now in an artist. Songs like the title track Blak and Blu and The Life showcase his r&b side while the critically acclaimed Bright Lights tell another story.
